T&T shines at Expo 2025 Osaka

BY the time it ends tomorrow, Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, will have drawn an estimated 28 million visitors to its sprawling complex on a man-made island, showcasing the best of 158 participating countries that have made the venue their home over the past six months.


In its final days, the Expo grounds on Yumeshima Island have been filled with the kind of energy usually reserved for theme parks, with swarming crowds, snaking lines, colourful exhibits, music and fireworks.


At any hour of the day, the Grand Roof Ring, a towering wooden structure designed by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto that encircles the pavilions, is alive with motion, with hundreds, sometimes thousands, choosing to walk the two-kilometre rooftop and look down over the country pavilions below.


From above, the site resembles a compact global city, with pedestrians weaving through its courtyards, volunteers guiding the lost through the crowds, and a skyline of temporary structures, some monumental and imposing, others whimsical and architecturally striking, lining its interior.
