MICAL TEJA WILLIAMS has brought his remarkable musical journey full circle last night with the launch of his debut album HOME. The Belmont-born soca bard debuted the highly anticipated 13-track project during a private listening at Tambran House, Alexandra Street, Port of Spain. Surrounded by family, friends and industry peers, Teja celebrated HOME with the same intention that shaped it—reconnecting with the people and places that made him.
“Initially my plans were to drop the album the same day of my first concert MAS The Experience, which was during Carnival on January 26,” Teja told the Express in an exclusive pre-launch virtual sit-down. “But due to the high demand of the season, I wasn’t able to get things completed in the manner in which I would’ve liked, so I halted the project for a short minute to release it in a bit of calmer period. That way I’d have the time to ensure it’s executed exactly as I desire, and it is done correctly.”
Teja’s HOME coming follows a banner 2024 Carnival season, where he earned both the Young King Calypso Monarch and Road March titles with his breakout anthem “DNA”. This year, he returned to the festival with the with the fete-starter “Energy” and groovy soca favourite “Tabanca”, cementing his place as one of the genre’s leading lights.
That consistency has now earned him three nominations at the upcoming Caribbean Music Awards (CMA)—Impact Award of the Year, Artiste of the Year, and Song of the Year. The CMAs will be held on August 28 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Read More
