The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has said that 7 items are banned from checked-in luggage The TSA has warned travellers that they can’t take seven items onto aircraft in checked luggage after a new ban was brought in this year. The Transportation Security Administration took to social media to tell people portable chargers and power banks for phones are not allowed - and they will be confiscated.
Officials said that restrictions on portable chargers and power banks are being introduced because of the risk of fire from overheating devices. A power bank was blamed for a January fire on Air Busan Flight 391 in South Korea; at least seven people were injured.
Federal Aviation Administration advice says: “Spare (uninstalled) lithium ion and lithium metal batteries, including power banks and cell phone battery charging cases, must be carried in carry-on baggage only. When a carry-on bag is checked at the gate or at planeside, all spare lithium batteries and power banks must be removed from the bag and kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin.
